How
easy is it to take impression? The
parents or a dentist can soften the patented thermoplastic wafer in
a water bath, and instruct your child to "open big, big like a lion,
then bite down tight while I count to 10." It's that simple. Parents
keep the Toothprints disc at home in
a reclosable bag (provided), for confidentiality and quick
access.
How
often should I update my impressions? Yearly
updates of Toothprints
bite
impressions are ideal. If not possible, it is recommended that the
initial impression be taken at age 3 (or after all the primary teeth
have erupted), updated at age 7 or 8 (or after the upper and lower
incisors and the first permanent molars have erupted), and then
again at age 12 or 13 (or after all permanent teeth, excluding 3rd
molars, have
erupted).
What if I want a dentist to take the
impression? If you would like
a recommendation please contact us. If you would like
your dentist to take the impression, they should have no problem in
doing so. Present them with the instructions during your next
visit.
What are the instructions for
Toothprints?
1.
Soften wafer in hot water (between
170◦
F and boiling (212◦
F).
Usually it takes
about 30 seconds, although you can leave it in much longer than
that.
2.
Write the child’s name and date of impression on the white block.
3.
Have child bite into the comfortable wafer for 50 seconds
4.
After a 2-3 minute cool-down period(do not lay the wafer down or
contaminate in any way) place the wafer
in
the kit's plastic bag.
5.
Parents take the bite impression and store in a safe dry place
for safekeeping.(Not the freezer)
Please do not breath on, sneeze, cough or otherwise
contaminate the impression.
Should I put the Toothprint in
the freezer to extend the life of the DNA? Storing
the Toothprint in the freezer will extend
the DNA, but it will also have a detrimental effect on the scent
remaining on the wafer. It is recommended that the wafer be
stored at room temperature in a place that parents can access easily
at any
time.
Why would using a
Toothprint with a tracking canine be better than using
clothing? When
using clothing, the scent is carried by dead skin cells and can
dissipate over time. These cells can also be washed out of clothing
removing any scent. Toothprints captures
saliva which is a strong scent carrier that will remain on the wafer
over time.
